Charity Work

Making a difference — in Nepal and right here in the West Midlands

Our Commitment to Giving Back

Since our founding in 2007, Hamro Nepali Samaj West Midlands UK has channelled the generosity of our community into life-changing projects across Nepal and the UK. From rebuilding earthquake-devastated schools to clearing streets in Wolverhampton, every initiative reflects our core belief: service to humanity is service to God.

Registered with the Charity Commission since 2015, we are fully accountable and transparent in how donations are collected and deployed. Below is a full account of the work we are proud to have carried out.

Supporting Education in Nepal

Education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. We have been providing ongoing support to children from impoverished backgrounds across Nepal.

  • School supplies & stationery — notebooks, pens, backpacks and uniforms donated to hundreds of pupils.
  • Scholarships — direct financial support to bright students who would otherwise be forced to leave school.
  • Infrastructure — contributions towards classroom construction and renovation in rural areas.
  • Teacher training funds — helping schools retain qualified teachers in remote villages.

We continue to accept donations specifically earmarked for educational support. Every pound raised goes directly to a child in need.

Relief Aid & Fundraising for Earthquake Victims

The 2015 Nepal earthquake claimed nearly 9,000 lives and left hundreds of thousands homeless. Hamro Nepali Samaj West Midlands UK responded swiftly and decisively.

  • Emergency food parcels distributed to over 500 families in the worst-affected districts.
  • Clothing drives collected and shipped blankets, warm clothing and sleeping bags.
  • Medical supplies — first-aid kits, medicines and hygiene packs sent to field clinics.
  • Fundraising events held across the West Midlands raised thousands of pounds within weeks of the disaster.
  • Long-term recovery — funds continued to flow to rebuilding projects for over two years after the initial disaster.

Reconstruction of School Post-Earthquake June 2017

In June 2017, we funded and coordinated the complete reconstruction of a primary school that had been reduced to rubble.

  • A brand-new, earthquake-resistant building with three classrooms, a staffroom and basic sanitation facilities.
  • Desks, chairs and whiteboards supplied for all classrooms.
  • The school reopened serving over 120 children who had been studying in temporary shelters.
  • Local contractors employed, ensuring money stayed within the community.

Ambulance Service for the Needy in Nepal

In rural Nepal, a medical emergency can be fatal simply because no transport is available. We have contributed to funding ambulance services that bring urgent care to some of the country's most remote communities.

  • Funding vehicle maintenance and fuel costs for ambulances operating in hill districts.
  • Supporting trained paramedic staff to accompany patients on long mountain journeys.
  • Partnering with local health posts to ensure a 24-hour response capability.

Construction Support — Pashupati Temple, Rowley Regis

We were proud to contribute to the construction of the Pashupati Temple in Rowley Regis — the first dedicated Nepalese Hindu temple in the West Midlands.

Community Hub

The temple serves as a gathering place for the Nepalese diaspora, hosting festivals and cultural events throughout the year.

Cultural Preservation

The temple preserves authentic Nepalese architectural traditions and spiritual practices for future generations.

Interfaith Bridge

Open to visitors of all faiths, the temple promotes understanding and harmony across the West Midlands.

Donation to Pavitra Samaj Sewa Nepal February 2014

In February 2014, we made a significant donation to Pavitra Samaj Sewa Nepal, a refuge providing shelter, food and care to the elderly, the disabled, and those abandoned by their families.

  • Funds covered several months of food supplies for over 60 residents.
  • Clothing and bedding donated to improve daily living conditions.
  • Our members personally visited the refuge to deliver aid and spend time with residents.

Fundraising Events

Our fundraising events are the lifeblood of our charitable activities — raising vital funds while bringing our community together in celebration.

  • Annual Gala Dinners — featuring Nepalese cuisine, cultural performances and live auctions.
  • Sponsored walks & runs — members taking on physical challenges for a cause.
  • Cultural festivals — Dashain, Tihar and New Year celebrations with a charitable collection.
  • Online campaigns — JustGiving and social media drives that reached donors across the UK and beyond.
